Prakriti Foundation first presented a festival of
Dhrupad performances by senior and distinguished practitioners of
this classical form in February 2006 to an appreciative Chennai
audience. The enthusiastic response led to ‘Gharana’, an annual
festival of Hindustani classical music that is held every year in
Chennai in March.
In a city dominated by the Carnatic tradition, since 2006 the annual ‘Gharana’ festival featuring a range of Hindustani artistes represents an opportunity for music lovers of the city to connect with the richly resonant art of Hindustani music. This year’s focus is on the Western musicians who practice the Indian Hindustani Classical Music for many years and have performed all over the world. The 3-day festival will be held 30,31st March and 1st April at the Museum Theatre, Egmore.
